Are you using a headphone during a skype session? I had to switch off the
external speakers and turned on the headphone to keep the microphone
working. Perhaps skype does not allow both external speakers and the
microphone at a time.

speakers during Skype and use only head phones.
The mike works well in other messengers like g talk.
I have tried changing audio settings in skype and in control panel
with no success.
