I have an DB of 20Gb and an recovery log of 4Gb. During backup at night the
maximum consumption is round about 50%. This consumption depends on how much
data has been backed up. The database depends on how much data you backup
and how many versions you save. But it seems normal to me.

Are you using roll forward recovery? From what you are saying it
appears so. I would recommend turning it off and using a logmode=normal
