Hi !!
Do you have any hints in setting up an enviroment that uses disk as a
primary recovery media. And tapes to store historical data and as
offsite media?
From my understanding I can use weekly image backups (almost as fun as
selective...), daily incremental backups and have a migration delay
Hi Henrik
First of all, there are no technical limitations when it comes to using
disk as a primary storage pool for all client data. However, there are
some gotcha's:
1. Using S-ATA drives. When using S-ATA drives, you will notice a
performance hit when doing backup storage pool and other
Hi there !
We have about 190 log extents, which from experience is way
too many for our Domino Server. They aren't getting deleted !
IBM have confirmed that the logger is corrupt.
We are not sure, which is the best way round the problem of
creating a new logger.
Should, we disable transaction

Each day we do a TSM DB backup to disk:
backup db devclass=adsmdbbk type=full
We want to do a DB unload and load off hours since this has never been
performed.
Questions:
If the backup db will fit on the disk devclass created for that
purpose, will the unload also?
Can we use the TSM disk
Hi,
Yes, since the unload will re-org and shrink the database
I always use disk, devt=file, when I do an unload/load DB. My DB backup
to disk is 26GB, an unload DB is 16GB.
Mostly I do this drill (test all utilities on my DB) in upgrade times on
a test server, hardly never on my production
Hello,
I am trying to run a select statement that will find all of the tapes that
are being utilized by NAS_SERVER_2_OFFSITE (node_name) with the
filespace_name of /root_vdm_4/HMCH1015_* and it just will not run. I have
successfully run the following and received output, but I want to be able

Your area to unload is smaller than your area to backup the database?

Hi all,
This has been posted before and I've read the answers but I'm not a lot
nearer getting a resolution. We have TSM Server 5.2 running on a
solaris. I'm the Windows Admin resposible for backing up the Windows
servers so I have no input into the Solaris setup. My problem is that I
can't see

Joni,
you could try adding and filespace_name like '/root_vdm_4/%'

I have seen a few notes recently surrounding disk storage pools. If you
are interested in keeping data on disk storage for restore purposes, you
can set cache to on. Cache allows a copy of the data to stay in the
storage pool. There are some performance hits, but have used it for
sysback pools
No, I use the same deviceclass. I dont know how much smaller it will get
before it is unloaded. Even if there are some
selects that will help me calculate wasted space.

Bill,
How has the journal been working with the 5.5 million objects? Does that
file system have much change to the files? 10%? 20%? Have you had to do
any load balancing if you have multiple volumes on that server? If so,
did the Journal handle all of the changes without becoming invalidated?
Thanks Richard!
I hadn't realized I was making that mistake. Upon further research I have
noticed that I cannot find a way to only get a listing of tapes that have
been written to within the past 2 days. Would the volumeusage table have
to be joined with another table to get this info.?
Hi all,
I know this has been discussed before and I have searched
the archives but cannot locate anything conclusive.
I am going to do a restore for a novell client who wants
to a backup from Server1\xxx\xxx the morning of june 9
restore to server2 \xxx\xxx
Can this be done from the TSM
Wanda,
Persistent binding is very easy to setup in a Windows environment. We could all
argue at great length on whether it should be handled by MS better but nearly
all HBA manufacturers have a mechanism to setup persistent binding.
Specifically we use Emulex cards and there is a utility that
trying to do a point in time restore for a specific folder but when i change the
point in time date to say jan 1 2005 at 8:00 am the folder does not appear
if i don't do a point in time and just display inactive backups i see files in
that folder older then jan 1 2005 at 8:00

Can anybody point me to the correct DOC to install this product onto a
system with
existing TSM running
I am trying to understand if this gets installed to the client or TSM
server or BOTH

Tim,
This is a common problem with the GUI. If files under the folder meet the
critieria but the folder itself does not then the folder is not displayed.
The most reliable method for doing point in time restores is to use the
command line interface: dsmc restore pitd=02/14/05
...and if I may add a parameter:
dsmc rest pitd=02/14/2005 c:\data\folderiwant2restore -pick
This will generate a list you can browse through, pick the files you
want, and initiate the restore.

On server1 you need to run this command (or a close variation of)...
dsmc set access backup * server2 *
This will give access to all of server1's backup data from server2. I think
the final * donotes what user is allowed to do the cross-server restore. In
this case it would be any user.

Paul,
You want IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for System Backup and Recovery,
GC32-9076-02. Sysback is installed on the system that you want to run it
on and then you tie into the TSM api to store the backup to TSM. The book
above explains the how to.

I don't see the link.
However if I get this correct
You say to install the product onto the client not the TSM server correct?
Then configure it through smit as unusual

There used to be a TSM client for VSE that could be backed up to a VM

Is this a configuration that is still supported?
Hi all
I asked that question last week, but I looked in the documentation and

Is there anyone that are doing that
Can someone tell me what to do
