Thanks Del.
Now that I understand that, how about commenting on
each of the copy group items in my example, supply a
definition which is easily understandable, an example
would suffice. I have read the redbook and I am still
confused.

Could someone with TDP Exchange experience comment on what
the following copy group definition for TDP Exchange clients
would mean for tdp object retention?
Versions Data Exists 90
Versions Data Deleted 90
Retain Extra Versions 90
Retain Only Version 90
Thanks.

We have the following environment:
5.1.6.2 TSM Server
5.1.6.2 Storage Agents
5.1.6 BA Clients
There are a high number of storage agent idle sessions
on the TSM Server. This didn't exist in the 5.1.1 environment.
Wondering if someone can point me to the solution for resolving
this.

Okay. I am trying to determine if I can script
the deletion of database BACKUPINCR volumes.
Any pointers would be appreciated.

It can't be done with the TSM scheduler. Y
Please instruct me on how to setup a schedule which
runs only on the first Saturday of each month. I find
the schedule options somewhat unclear.

Request for sql script...
A while back there was a posting of a very useful report.
I have been able reproduce all the parts except for the one
below.
If anyone is aware of how to generate this content from the
TSM sql databases I would really appreciate it.

I have some tapes that inadvertantly got marked to mountablenotinlib.
How do I set them back to mountableinlib? Its seems like this should
be easy but I can't locate how to do it. The tapes have been verified
to be in the silo.

We had a complete installation of 5.1 server, 5.1 storage agent,
and 5.1 client. The mixed case problem occurred with this
configuration. If you read the 5.1.1 client README file, you
will see they corrected this problem.
So the mixed case problem occurs with the client AND server
at 5.1.
It is
There is a new server, client, storage agent.. 5.1.1.
Be fully aware that the new 5.1 client does not handle mixed-case
filenames properly. I would recommend immediately installing
the 5.1.1 client which does handle mixed-case file names.
It will work with the 5.1 server and storage agent.

In our environment, using DistribuTape from Gresham, it is the
host running the Storage Agent, which talks through DistribuTape,
that issues the tape manipulation commands.

I installed TSM 5.1 Server on a new machine a few weeks ago.
I have been consistently seeing defunct processes being generated
on this box and TSM is the only process running.
Anyone else see this behavior? I am running 4.3.3 ML 9 and
java version "1.3.0"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard
he "backup devconfig" and see if
that puts all the info into the file.

I came across an interesting anomaly when restoring the 5.1 TSM Database
when an external library manager is implemented.
With 5.1 TSM, external libraries are supported using DEFINE PATH.
Well, the result of DEFINE PATH does NOT put EXTERNALMANAGER=blah in the
devconfig file.
What this means is
We are doing something similar here... our FC drives are connected
through a McData switch. The tape drives have to be "zoned" before
they can be seen... any thing like that with the Brocade Switch?

Brian,
When this happens to us even with a Space Trigger in place
it is necessary to:
1. define a new log volume with dsmfmt
2. extend the log using dsmserv
3. then restart your TSM server
Once it is running you can remove and delete the log vol you
added.

Curious if anyone has done this on AIX.
We are migrating 3 servers to one 6M1/AIX box.
Issues? All servers have to be same version?
Thanks
