Serval years ago a wrote a document on configuring tape drives in TSM for
performance/redundancy. We had some problems today and I had to dig out the
document. I looked through it and made a couple of minor updates. It still
seems pretty relevant. I have not made updates to the sections on SCSI
We also use Iron Mountain, without any complaints. We put the LTO tapes in
their clear white cases and then in a soft "pizza" bag to be shipped off site.
I have had problems with the leader pins falling out of the cartridges - I
don't know if this is related to them being shipped offsite though.

unfortunately no one is going to be to tune your servers through email. Your issue is
that AIX and TSM all have the default settings. I don't think anyone should be
surprised that is not optimal.
What you need to do is establish a perf and tuning methodology. Establish a base line

Having used both flat files for dumps and SQL-back track, I prefer to use files. What
I mean is I dump the database to files first, then backup the files to TSM.
This is what I do:

I had this problem trying to backup a Netware volume that was mounted on a windows
box. My solution was to exclude the offending files.
I excluded the directory one level down:

If I understand you correctly you have many AIX clients, but only one is not working
properly? If that is the case, I'd start with the AIX box, not the TSM client.

files.
