Good Morning,
I'm trying to send backup data directly to tapes with multiple tape streams.
I have tried by setting various parameters like resource in dsm.sys ,
migration processes for tape storage pool but it doesn't use all tape drives
at a time. I have 6 filesystems each of 256 Gig and my 3575
Peter,
There is no way in AIX to specify software to be installed in specific
directory rather than /usr or /usr/lpp. Still you can copy installed
software on other filesystems or disks. If you change directory names it
works but you have to change all executable file links from /usr/bin
director
on't seem to be
doing that. The tsm server is plugged into the same switch has the backup
server and on the same ip subnet. Also, the database files that I'm backing
up are just oracle dump files. The tsm serve is also running aix 4.3.3.

We are backing up 2 servers of capacity 1.2 TB everyday. We have shark
system and flash copy is implemented on shark. Without client interference
we backup 1.2 Gig to TSM. It's running with 6 drives. No LAN/Free. But it's
Client/Free backup. To restore we have placed Gbit Interfaces in Client and
Adaptive incemental backup is designed for NT/2000/9x clients only.

A File might be on multiple volume or It has more than one versions. If the
only version of file is deleted TSM removes it's references from database.
If TSM doesn't find earlier version of file in database it backs up it again
in next incremental. Deletion of volumes from copy pool doesn't delete
Gill,
Your Migration of H50 to ??? depends upon lots of factors.
1. What is TSM Database size?
2. Are you looking for TSM Availability or Performance?
If you keep log and database files on separate disk it's going to give you
good performance. But you should consider tuning other parameters als

How did you lost database ? We are running some of databases in RAID-5, if
two cards lost means it's threat to our data . After replacing SAA-Ada did
you lost disks also?

Salem,
Management want 28 copies or a file version anywhere in 28 days? If you set
up 28 versions and retention to 28 days. You will able to give 'em any file
version in 28 days. There is no primary pool. You might be meaning primary
disk pool. Files move in daily migration from primary disk pool
Peter,
Backup set is designed to have LAN-free restore capability for small and
remote clients. If you are going to use same resources
(library,tsm-server,network) to restore client then it's better not to
create backup sets. We can always schedule multiple threads to restore that

Salman,
It depends on how you implement DISKDIRPOOL. It takes very less space
compared to file data. There are various options to keep it in primary
pools. You can use cache feature and keep it in disk pool.
If you are restoring from disaster DISKDIRPOOL can be restored from offsite
tape first an
Jeff,
Maximum value for BUFPOOLSIZE is limited to available virtual memory size.
IBM recommends setting it to 10% of physical memory. I have turned
SELFTUNEBUFPOOLSIZE variable on so that if cache hit ratio decreases by 98%
TSM adjusts BUFPOOLSIZE dynamically. This variable is available in TSM 3.
Hi Kelli,
Do you have any symbolic links added on AIX client? If yes, try using
archsyml=no in option file.
What is client code level you are running? If you are not running latest
client, you can upgrade it to 4.1.2.Lastly try running archive from command
line client with every filespace. You mi
Mike,
Try running "dsmadmc" from server console. If that doesn't allow you to
connect to TSM, you can set communication method as SharedMem in dsmserv.opt
and dsm.sys, which doesn't use TCP/IP and run dsmserv from server itself. If
you able to log in to TSM, you have to first increase log. Hope t
Hello All,
Does anybody have experience with backup set generation on 4mm/8mm internal
DAT drives? Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi William,
Tivoli doesn't allow to use diskpools for LAN free backup. At least this
feature is not available in 4.1 version. The Tivoli implementation of SAN
allows to share tape devices. Backup data directly moves from Tivoli storage
agent to tape and metadata is stored in server through LAN. I
Yes, you do.

SQL-Backtrack have some issues to restore from different AIX levels. Are u
doing physical restore or logical extraction? You can monitor restore
process with "dtwatch" at client side. Check ocatalog directory, if it's not
in sync with ADSM, restore causes problems. For more correct analysis report
Does "query stgpool " or

If it is, then you have to find out files on volumes and delete these files.
Use "query content ". Once PCT Util is zero, you should able
to delete volumes and stg pools. To delete file spaces on these volumes you
