Hi Stefan,
Versions data deleted is nothing to do with this. It Specifies the maximum number of

Hi,
i think so too.
I will specify my problem.
We have two mgmt classes.
One for Windows2000-Standard for normal server(default mgmt class) with following
setting on the backupcopygroup:
Versions Data Exists 5
Versions Data Deleted 1
Retain Extra Versions 30
Retain Only Version 60
for
Windows2000.
I have the following settings on the backupcopygroup in this managementclass:
Versions Data Exists 5
Versions Data Deleted 1
Retain Extra Versions 30
Retain Only Version 60
My question is, do i have to arise the parameter Versions Data Deleted to store more
than one image
that far.
This may be because the way ~TSM is set up we only keep three versions on
the server. Is it possible to restore backups, from removable media, that
are older than three or four days if your retention period is set to 3
days ?
Hope you understand what I mean

TSM is a policy/rule based system, governed by object status
, they are
stored in a filespace like they are separate files.

Not exactly. While TDPO for example relies on RMAN to expire backups,

Hi all,
I was just wondering. TSM's default for a new copygroup is to set versions
data deleted to 1. We have been using that value for allmost every
copygroup, with just one or two exceptions. Now sombody noted that to him it
made no sense to retain fewer versions of deleted data
Our standard policy to retain backups for 30 days. We do that by
setting both VersionsExist and VersionDeleted to NoLimit and DaysExist
and DaysDeleted to 30.
Versions unlimited means we don't take the performance hit of
versioning during the client backup window.
