We ditched our own IPTV system a couple years back. We still promote 3
partner multicast IPTV systems across our network and Sling for OTT.
However, Youtube TV launched in our market and is way better than any other
OTT system I've seen. Local channels, network channels, cloud DVR and a

We are hitting about $1450 per address passed, and $1000 per home connected
all-in expenses.

It looks like you get 6 accounts for the $35/mo fee. It will be
interesting to watch what they do with Google Fiber TV. Google's own
customers will potentially be cable cutting to go with Youtube TV.

It is a very political discussion that will likely never result in any form
of consensus, especially among this group because of financial interests
involved, as to whether or not government should be involved in building
fiber networks. However, from my perspective (and UTOPIA Fiber's),
interest
completed, then there will likely be some relief of that bond form our
revenues.

Most of what Chuck says is true about the first phase of UTOPIA. It was a
disaster. Some of it was their fault, some of it wasn't.
For example, AT&T was actually the first service provider on UTOPIA and had
an initial exclusivity period. One day the higher-ups at AT&T decided to

I would recommend steering away from a Special Assessment Area as a
mechanism for funding FTTx. A bond with an SAA repayment still needs some

the properties as the backstop to the bonds. It worked to get the bond and

I like XKCD's map of IP allocations. It's somewhat out of date, but does
show where a lot of waste is at, which hasn't changed much since this was
created.

I have sourced optics from these and several other Chinese and European
