Additional note: when kmail is configured to jump to the newest message when
selecting a folder it will fail on folders which contain messages with dates
that akonadi cannot handle properly

Confirmed. Disabling nepomuk in systemsettings and killing all nepomuk*
processes make me able to use kmail again (current 4.8 branch).

Maybe this bug is out of focus? Or there is too much to do. Or a lack of

I think there is a severe memleak in bash.
I had this effect with bash 4.2.10 (Ubuntu Linux) as well as
bash 4.1.9 on Gentoo Linux.
To make it short:
echo {0..1000}/dev/null
This makes my system starting to swap as bash will allocate several GiB of
memory.
