Re: [Evergreen-general] [External] Paperback vs. Hardcover Records

Have you considered using the functionality for parts? I believe this would
make it possible to keep one record and at the same time allow patrons to
choose paperback or hardcover when placing hold

Re: [Evergreen-general] LP 1948991: Administration Options - Mismatch with headers

2024-01-17 Thread Cerninakova Eva via Evergreen-general
I agree with the reasons Jeniffer said. In addition, it seems to me better
in terms of translations as well: when generated automatically, some
currently used headers are problematic if they are composed of several
parts (the union of two terms may not always be a suitable translation of
the interface name).

Re: [Evergreen-general] Pick Up Later

2023-08-29 Thread Cerninakova Eva via Evergreen-general
 Hi Elizabeth,

If I understand your question correctly, you are asking how to extend the
date by which the item on the hold shelf is to be picked up?

If so, then

   - go to *Hold Shelf* under the *Circulation* menu,
   - in the *Actions* for selected items, choose *Edit Hold Dates*,
   - and edit the *Shelf Expire Date*.

I am not sure whether there might be a library setting preventing changes
to shelf expiration dates if the item is in the status Ready for Pickup;
however, I am not aware of such a setting.

Hope this helps

[Evergreen-general] Localized test server for bug squashing week?

2023-08-16 Thread Cerninakova Eva via Evergreen-general
Hi all,

When preparing our planned Evergreen upgrade, I ran into some serious
issues related to localization. E.g., Evergreen is not properly switching
into Czech in the Staff client (as Linda pointed out in the Evergreen
general mailing list about two weeks ago); some strings that haven't yet
been translated in POEditor won't show in the Evergreen Staff client
interface even in English (there's a blank space instead); or, in some
cases, only certain individual letters (and a blank space) are displayed
from translated strings containing non-ASCII characters.

So with the approaching bug squashing week, I am wondering if it would be
possible for one of the test servers to have localization on for the Staff
client and for the OPAC too.

I think it would be very useful if more people could go through the
localized interfaces and test the localization problems, e.g., in Spanish
or French plus in the Czech localizations (the Czech localization would
definitely be suitable for testing, both because it has more non-ASCII
characters than other languages and also because almost all new strings
have been translated recently). Our Czech Evergreen community is currently
working hard to resolve the problems we came across. However, I suppose
broader testing would at least reveal if the errors we encountered are
general Evergreen bugs to be reported or just errors specific to the data
and settings of our catalog, which could shift the localization features of
Evergreen a little forward.

Thank you very much for considering this suggestion.

Eva

Re: [Evergreen-general] Broad strokes

2022-10-06 Thread Cerninakova Eva via Evergreen-general
Thanks, Kate, for a great question. 
And thanks to all of you for very useful recommendations.

These are my tips:
- Keyboard shortcuts are an excellent tool for switching between tasks.
- Retrieving the last patron, recent patrons and last bib record can help a
lot, particularly at the circulation desk.
- Item templates save time and reduce mistakes.
- Using a TCN (or ID) could be the quickest way to find the right bib
record, even if you have to deal with different book editions. (However,
this might depend on library practice. For example, in our library, we
often use a TCN to find the right bib record. It is easy to use TCN because
we print it on the item labels).
- Barcode completion is very helpful as it makes it possible to omit typing
prefix (or suffix) digits when adding barcode manually.
- The MARC Flat Text editor can be used to copy or delete multiple MARC
fields simultaneously.

Hi Benjamin,

As Mike pointed, it is possible to place hold on issuance in the TPAC. You
can see the example in our catalog:

https://knihovna.jabok.cuni.cz/eg/opac/record/5748?detail_record_view=0;fi%3Abib_level=s;locg=103;pubdate=is;page=5;expand=issues;sid=45;stype=basic#issues

In the serial record, it is necessary to scroll down and expand the "Isues
Held" bar and then expand individual volumes until the list of single
issues can be seen with the link "Issue Hold" at the end od the issue row.

Unfortunately, hold can't be placed in the item table that is shown in the
top of the record (which according to my experience is little confusing
for patrons).

Re: [Evergreen-general] Creating MARC Templates Error

2022-01-11 Thread Cerninakova Eva via Evergreen-general
Hi Ariez

I'm pretty sure that the problem isn't the MARC template. I tried to
upload the MARC template you have attached to our test server (Evergreen
version 3.6.4) and no error occurred while trying to open the template. I
believe the problem would be somewhere in the configuration, however, I
can't think of anything else but an error in the opensrf.xml file.

Maybe someone else would be able to give you a hint.

Re: [Evergreen-general] Creating MARC Templates Error

2022-01-10 Thread Cerninakova Eva via Evergreen-general
Hi Ariez,

At first glance, I don't see any error in the template, at least XML seems
to be valid.
I recommend checking the "" section in the
/openils/conf/opensrf.xml file - In my experience a similar problem can be
caused, for example, by a typo in the MARC template definition in this file.

Hope this helps

Re: [Evergreen-general] Printing barcodes

2021-08-03 Thread Cerninakova Eva via Evergreen-general
Hi Brandi,

We use gLabels (see https://help.gnome.org/users/glabels/stable/) for
printing barcodes, patron cards or any other types of cards. I personally
consider gLabels to be quite simple and very functional. The only drawback
may be that it is only available for Linux (as far as I know).
