Congratulations to everyone! So glad to hear we had a good "turnout" for
voting, as well.

Re: [Evergreen-general] [External] Paperback vs. Hardcover Records

2024-03-20 Thread Kate Coleman via Evergreen-general
Missouri Evergreen made a change from separate records to allowing both on
one record about 5 years ago. We had many of the same reasonings that Will
outlined, especially duplicate records (or what seem to be duplicated to
the patrons) in the catalog. We did have libraries that felt that it was
still worth separating them, but when it came down to the amount of patrons
to whom it was important versus how much work and clutter it caused, it was
simply not justified anymore.

Our rule is if the *content* is the same, it can be placed together. We
have +/- 10 page and +/- 3 cm. rulesw. Mass markets are never put on the
same record as hardovers, and of course if there is a different
illustrator, narrator, foreword, etc., they get their own records.

staff have been holding off on editing records they should be able to start
back up without too much trouble. There are a couple other backend things
we'll be looking into and will be keeping an eye on things for a while."

Our consortium uses Syndetics (Proquest product) and we have much the same
experience. It's so hit or miss. Sometimes we'll request an updated cover
and it's done in a few days, but more often than not, it's literally 6
months or more. I'm wondering if this service is just not as important to
these vendors that provide so many other services that it's not paid enough
attention to. Regardless, it IS service they are supposed to provide, so
support it!

[Evergreen-general] Staff Portal page customization

2023-05-09 Thread Kate Coleman via Evergreen-general
Anyone have any tips and tricks for customizing the staff portal page
(avail beginning 3.9)? I've tried to do it twice, messed a bunch of stuff
up both times, and have been too scared to try again. I thought I was
following along beautifully with the documentation, but apparently not! :)

Re: [Evergreen-general] How do you keep your OCLC holdings up to date?

2023-02-09 Thread Kate Coleman via Evergreen-general
Our consortium also relies on each individual library to keep their own
holdings current if they so wish. Since OCLC numbers are unfortunately used
inconsistently in our catalog, we have a more manual way of doing things.
Using a data sync collection set up through OCLC, we submit one file for
added holdings and one file of deleted holdings. We get these using a
report in Evergreen and then isolate the TCNs. OCLC requires the files be
in a certain format and named a very specific way with this workflow, but
it works well for us. I may look into some of the more automated processes
I've seen in this thread, though!

Re: [Evergreen-general] SMS notice bounce backs

2023-01-26 Thread Kate Coleman via Evergreen-general
Yes, our whole consortium is reporting issues, especially with AT and
Cricket. Our host has tried to get to the bottom of it and said:

"Yes, there is a huge issue right now with Cricket / AT and them wanting
to stop receiving email to SMS messages, and that's how Evergreen sends
them. AT has been actively trying to get their users to turn off the
"email to SMS" function on their phones, as a way to deter spam, and the
patrons may not know that this will effect SMS messages from the ILS. We
don't have a solution. Any attempts I've made to reach out to AT have
gone nowhere unfortunately."

Re: [Evergreen-general] Holds on individual serials?

2022-09-21 Thread Kate Coleman via Evergreen-general
While I'm not sure if there is some mechanism in the serials module that
makes things different (we don't use it), we utilize monograph parts BIG
TIME in our consortium. It gets the job done re: holds, but it's rough
making sure everything has parts because if ONE holding has parts, it
really only works (okay, it works best) if then every holding on that
record has parts.

[Evergreen-general] OCLC's Real-time availability functionality with Evergreen?

2022-06-30 Thread Kate Coleman via Evergreen-general
Does anyone use OCLC's real-time availability in their ILL workflow?
According to OCLC, " Real-time availability connects your OCLC resource
sharing service (WorldShare ILL, Tipasa, or ILLiad) to your library’s local
catalog to determine if a requested item is available. When your library is
the current lender in the string, real-time availability checks the item’s
status in your local system." Their questionnaire regarding the product
asks what ILS you use and lists the usual suspects, but not Evergreen.

[Evergreen-general] Batch delete?

2021-06-18 Thread Kate Coleman via Evergreen-general
I have an isolated list of TCNs that I want to batch delete. Without going
to the "back end" (i.e. SysAdmin stuff), any advice on how to do this?
There's GOT to be away to get these into a bucket or something?

Help me! We are going fine free...what all do I need to consider and change
in Evergreen? I don't suppose there's just a checkbox and it makes
everything magically work exactly how I'd like it to, is there?
