Hi Elizabeth,

Just to make sure I'm understanding, you will be sending out the connection

Re: [Evergreen-general] removal of vendor from paid support wiki page

2024-04-10 Thread Rogan Hamby via Evergreen-general
Yeah, we want to be completely transparent about any maintenance of that
information. Just to shed a bit of light on the maintenance we found a
several vendors that did not have the required link on their pages and
worked with them to fix that up so they never left the listing.
However, after several weeks of no reply combined with the statement to a
community member that they weren't offering Evergreen anymore we felt it
was warranted to remove them.

[Evergreen-general] removal of vendor from paid support wiki page

2024-04-10 Thread Rogan Hamby via Evergreen-general
We are have been doing a review of the vendors on the paid support listing
of the wiki :
https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=faqs:evergreen_companies#catalyte_inc

One vendor, Catalyte no longer offers Evergreen services and does not
provide a link back to the Evergreen community web site, nor has responded
to an email inquiry so they are being removed. This is being posted because
we set as a procedure that the general list would be updated of any
removals.

Re: [Evergreen-general] SMS Messages Not Being Received

This is an ongoing trend I've been seeing with SMS Gateways. A charitable
interpretation would be that they are doing it to prevent spam but
regardless of motive it is certainly driving people to look at SMS services
that don't rely on gateways. This has been a topic of conversation in the
Koha community as well.

Re: [Evergreen-general] Hack-A-Hosting Proposals for 2024 Now Open

2024-03-15 Thread Rogan Hamby via Evergreen-general
Good afternoon,

As we head into the weekend, I'm reminding folks of this opportunity to
host the 2024 Hack-A-Way. We've had a few questions but not proposals yet
so if you're shy please step forward. This is not a large event that
requires a consortia level host, in fact we've been hosted by individual
libraries several times in the past.

What we need:

   - A clean meeting space for 15 - 30 people.
   - Working space for laptops.
   - A TV, projector or other display.
   - Adequate bandwidth for the users.
   - A few snacks and forms of hydration and caffeine to keep blood sugar
   and productivity up.
   - Facilitate reasonable hotel accommodations (cheaper is better but no
   bed bugs).
   - Although not required it's become tradition for the host to supply
   lunches.

[Evergreen-general] Hack-A-Hosting Proposals for 2024 Now Open

2024-02-19 Thread Rogan Hamby via Evergreen-general
We are looking for a host for the annual Hack-A-Way this year in 2024.
Traditionally we have opened proposals after the conference but we are
doing it a little early this year. For those unfamiliar with it, the
Hack-A-Way is a much smaller event than the conference and a great way for
an organization to host a community event. The Hack-A-Way focuses on
providing a means for coders and documentation writers to collaborate in
person and plan major projects for the upcoming year.

   - Facilitate reasonable hotel accommodations (cheaper is better but no
   bed bugs).
   - Although not required it's become tradition for the host to supply
   lunches.

If your organization is interested please contact me with details of your
proposal.

[Evergreen-general] Hack-A-Way

2023-10-19 Thread Rogan Hamby via Evergreen-general
Good morning (or whenever you read this),

The Hack-A-Way is approaching quickly. A few reminders and updates:

The Hack-A-Way follows the Evergreen community event policies. This
includes the Code of Conduct and Photography Policy.

https://evergreen-ils.org/code-of-conduct/

https://evergreen-ils.org/conference/photography-policy/

I will bring red, yellow and green lanyards so participants will have an
option of which to wear. Event responders in case there is an
emergency will be available at the event.

[Evergreen-general] Hack-A-Way head counts and travel arrangements

2023-07-10 Thread Rogan Hamby via Evergreen-general
Good afternoon,

First a reminder - if you are planning to attend the Hack-A-Way please put
your name under the Attendees section of the wiki page -
https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=hack-a-way:hack-a-way
-2023#attendees

This is important to help us estimate food for attendees. If you do not
have wiki access or simply do not wish to be listed please let me know.
Also if you have any food allergies please let me know so that we can take
that into consideration with food planning. Getting an accurate
headcount is important unless we want to run out of coffee.

Additionally, we have started a spreadsheet for when people are traveling
to begin arranging for shutting folks to and from the airport:

We have hadtwo questions I wanted to address for anyone who wasn't aware.
1) The Hack-A-Way does not have a formal registration or cost though
obviously we want to know about attendees for logistical reasons. 2) The
project is for contributors who want to spend the time working on the
project. This explicitly includes things like documentation and development
but is not meant to be exclude other forms of contribution.

I've talked with Fort Harrison and confirmed that the most expensive room,
most should be cheaper, is $233.99 including tax. I didn't see the higher
prices when I checked the site but if you have issues with the website I
recommend calling directly using the phone number.

Note that we do require that everyone in the photo either fit one of these
criteria:
1) At an official event and wearing a green lanyard
2) At an official event and if wearing a yellow lanyard gave permission for
the photo
3) At a non-conference event, they gave permission for the photo.

Any photos with a red lanyard will either have that person cropped or not
used.

[Evergreen-general] community survey

2023-02-02 Thread Rogan Hamby via Evergreen-general
We have had some great initial responses from the community survey but I
know we have a lot of entities, both consortia and individual libraries
that haven't responded so I want to put it back out here again.

In case you're wondering if you should respond, the answer is yes! We
welcome responses from individual libraries in or out of consortia as well
as consortia responses.

Thank you in advance!

[Evergreen-general] Registrations are Now Open for the 2023 Evergreen Conference

2022-12-21 Thread Rogan Hamby via Evergreen-general
Registration is now open for the annual Evergreen International Conference,
returning in-person April 26-29, 2023, in Worcester, Massachusetts,
offering presentations and discussions for users of the Evergreen library
management system and those interested in finding out more about the open
source software and its community.

“Community at the Heart of Evergreen” is the theme for the conference,
reflecting both that librarians and other members of the Evergreen
community design and produce the open source system for the library
community, and the location of the conference in the heart of New England.

Two and a half days of programs by community members cover a range of
interests and concerns, including communicating with consortium members,
burnout, improving customer service, hosting options, and system security,
in addition to programs on upcoming enhancements and Evergreen system
modules.Nine specialized interest and working group meetings provide
attendees with opportunities to discuss and share.

“Data Security and Patron Privacy in Today’s Library” is the focus of the
keynote address by David Leonard, President of the Boston Public Library.
Leonard will share his insights, experience and recommendations on
cybersecurity reflecting on the BPL’s ransomware attack in 2021.

Preconference plans for Wednesday, April 26th include programs on the
building and releasing of Evergreen software, converting to Linux, using
Git, and accessibility in Evergreen. Wednesday also offers separate
Hackfests for development and documentation, an opportunity for community
collaboration.

Early bird registration ends on February 17th.

For full details, program registration and hotel information, go the
conference website at
https://evergreen-ils.org/conference/2023-evergreen-international-conference/

Re: [Evergreen-general] Purging deleted shelving locations

2022-10-21 Thread Rogan Hamby via Evergreen-general
Unfortunately to actually purge the shelving locations something would have
to be done in the data base to resolve where they are linked to (off the
top of my head) both items and circulations. The best thing would be to
update the editor to either hide or filter them, which there is a bug here
for:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1917092

I think it deserves more heat added to it and one of the other bugs
complicating it was resolved in August.

[Evergreen-general] SQL for Librarians: Pre-Conference

[Evergreen-general] Hack-A-Way 2021 and 2022

2021-11-05 Thread Rogan Hamby via Evergreen-general
I'd like to thank everyone that came out to the Hack-A-Way this year, our
tenth! Again, many thanks to Evergreen Indiana for hosting us this year
and to Keith Kaffenberger for his hard work in putting the event together.
However, as one Hack-A-Way ends another one begins being planned, hopefully
with in person collaboration this time. That's right, in 2022 we hope that
by October we will be able to sit around actual physical tables with each
other again! It will be one of our even numbered years which means that
instead of heading to Indiana we will go somewhere else and that means we
need a host. We are not at a site selection stage yet but if your
organization is interested in hosting please let me know and send any and
all questions my way.

To anticipate one question … who can host? Any community member can host.
We have been hosted by community libraries, academic libraries, non-profit
organizations and state libraries. What do we need? From the wiki :

   -

   A clean meeting space for 15 - 30 people.
   -

   Working space for laptops.
   -

A TV, projector or other display.
   -

   Adequate bandwidth for the users
   -

A few snacks and forms of hydration and caffeine to keep blood sugar and
   typing up
   -

Facilitate reasonable hotel accommodations (cheaper is better but no bed
   bugs)
   -

Although not required it's become tradition for the host to supply
   lunches

This is a great opportunity to host an event much, much smaller than a
conference so don't be shy. If you have questions there is no commitment
at this stage so feel free to drop me a note.

You are correct and it has been merged so it will be in 3.8 when it is
released.

[Evergreen-general] Hack-A-Way 2021

2021-06-21 Thread Rogan Hamby via Evergreen-general
When we initially announced the Hack-A-Way we started plans to have it in
person again this year in Indiana. However, we have continued to monitor
the ever-changing public health situation and putting safety first we feel
we have to change course and have decided to move the event online again
this year. Like many people I will miss sitting around a table with
everyone but we feel it is the most prudent thing to do.

We do have confirmed dates, October 25th - 27th. Although we will be
online Evergreen Indiana will again be hosting us. We have not decided on
a platform yet but will begin evaluating options very soon.

Re: [Evergreen-general] library listings

2021-06-10 Thread Rogan Hamby via Evergreen-general
Hi Kendra,

The org selector does not assume the organizations are part of your system
since it really doesn't know what a system is, that is just a label we
humans put on it. Indeed, Evergreen can support a lot of organizational
schemes so all it knows is that you are all part of one big tree of
organizational units. One part of a consortium may use a two-tiered setup
(system and branch) while another could use a four-tiered (local
consortium, system, branch, sub-branches). So, when you type it is just
matching based on name, nothing more.
