Hello Parker,
Is your system really SMP (you really have 2 CPUs)
or are you just running an SMP kernel?

Hi
I try this pacth and it works!!!
EXPLANATION HOW TO GET THE SOUND TO WORK ON ALSA 0.9
File: ./sound/pci/ac97/ac97_codec.c
Function: static int patch_ad1881(ac97_t * ac97)
Add this line right after the
init_MUTEX(&ac97->spec.ad18xx.mutex) call:
snd_ac97_write_cache(ac97, 0x72, 0x0010)

Hi,
I'm trying to get ALSA working on my laptop, a Compaq Armada 3500. The
soundchip is an ESS 1869. But it doesn't work with the snd-es18xx.o module.
Under OSS I have it running as a Soundblaster, with "modprobe sb
io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1 dma16=5". But this same 'trick' doesn't work under
ALSA.

I have recompiled the kernel, without SMP, and it seems to be working
now, so it seems that as long as I don't need SMP support I might be OK.

Hi,
I'm also trying to use an RME digi96/8 card in ADAT mode (and Dutch

(http://www.wakkanet.fi/~kaiv/ecasound/) very useful, although I'm not
getting spotless sound from the card yet. You claim being able to play a
wave file over the first two channels.
