Hi,
When KDE is compiled for OSS driver only, it doesn't show any ALSA
midi device. I don't know if this is feature or bug (KDE), but this
is not problem of ALSA but problem of KDE. (There is test in KDE -
compiled for OSS and runing on ALSA - not use midi from ALSA - not

Appreciate the response, however this doesnt seem to work.
I did try those commands on both devices and i still end up with the same
result.

The latest CVS includes pcmcia support, and that's a problem. On my
machine it will compile nicely; but when I attempt to load the "snd"
module, I get a bunch of errors about pcmcia-specific functions that are
not defined.
These functions are in the last few lines of wrappers.c and sound.inc.

Hello Greg,
Can you try running alsaconf to configure you system for ALSA?
It does a few things including cleaning up the file /etc/modules.conf.
Make sure the following lines are commented out in it:
alias sound-slot-0 via82cxxx_audio
post-install
pre-remove
Reboot your Linux.
when you try lsmod,

Do the wavetable ports show up with "aconnect -ol" or in
/proc/asound/seq/clients?

Thanks Anthony.
I removed that module.. and tried %modprobe
snd-via82xx again... That produced the same error.
Do I have to backup a few more steps after I remove
the old module?
Also, I had already uncommented that module in
modules.conf. Is that going to cause the "modprobe
-r" problems?

Hello,
I think you need to remove the built-in driver before loading the ALSA.
It's via82cxxx_audio. In my system I had to do
modprobe -r via82cxxx_audio.

Hi Anthony,
Yes, that was the problem. After shutting down the old module, the alsa
module loaded fine. It also solved the full duplex problem with
Gnomemeeting as advertised.
Thanks.

Any other ideas, anyone? I'm starting to pull my hair out here.

Hi
Snd-config is for OSS modules not ALSA.
If you have modules.conf setup correctly (if not look at the info page
for your sound-card on the alsa website) .. you will find the easiest
way to start your drivers is using the alsasound script found in
../alsa-driver/utils/
Simply type in "./als

What do you mean with you "can't access" it?

It's possible if you use the aoss script from the alsa-oss package.
This one redirects all accesses to /dev/dspX to an ALSA PCM device
named dspX, which you can define in t

In theory, bash-1 is supported. This has been fixed in the CVS
version.

Alsaplayer. It also supports JACK output
Don't answer this... I'll just use a pair of inputs for the audio out on
the patchbay.
