Sorry for the newbie help request =)
I desperately need help getting external MIDI to work!
I built the ALSA driver according to the INSTALL docs for my chipset (nVidia
nforce2), using ./configure --with-cards=intel8x0 --with-sequencer=yes.
Sound works great, but amidi -l yields no MIDI device

Put snd-usb-audio into the blacklist file, too.
That made Alsa start up correctly for the soundcard.
I have a Toshiba Satellite P15-S420 model. The built in sound card is a

I think I've discovered one common feature when I have semaphore
errors with my intel8x0 card. It seems to happen only when the
machine has a network connection. I'm not absolutely sure about this,
but I'm pretty sure.
Today, I tested the sound for some time. I played a DVD, did a few

Bill, I was "considering" getting another sound card, and disabling the
"mother-board" sound card.
First question, of course, would be, what sound card would work best, with
ALSA and Linux support - mostly need a PCI stereo sound card, I usually
connect my sound card directly to my analog stere

I would advise recording in different ways.

Hello,
I'm currently experiencing weird problems with my Terratec Aureon 7.1-Space

When I try to use arecord for recording from analog inputs (for instance
'arecord -fS32_LE -r44100 -c2 -d1 foo.wav'), sometimes the pc crashes.

OK, after a LOT of digging and help from the developers the last
major hurdle was overcome.
Apparently one must manually select either the optical or
electrical input of the PDAudioCF card. (this was not documented
anywhere).
I threw together a simple script that automatically determines

Hello,

The noise issue has not been resolved, and continues to plague my
recordings...

Hey ho.
I've been struggling with a recurring semaphore problem since November
and I've written here several times about it, but I've never found a
solution to the problem. I'll ask again. I'll take anything. Heck,
just tell me what the heck a semaphore *is* for that matter.
