I have huge problems getting my nForce2 chipset to produce any sound.
Got an NF7-S board from Abit and run kernel 2.6.5. I tried with the
kernel-built-in-drivers (1.0.3 I think) and with 1.0.4. I remember
trying with 0.9.8 or something as well back a while but I never got ANY
sound

I compiled a vanilla kernel a few days ago (version 2.4.25). My system
is SuSE Linux 9.0 which has alsa 0.9.6 patched into the kernel. That is
why I decided to compile alsa-driver-0.9.6 for the new vanilla kernel.

want to buy an additional PCI sound card. The vendor of my computer
does not seem to be well informed about linux compatible sound cards
(he told me that the Soundblaster 128 and Live are no longer available,
