I was getting ticks, I could fix it in XMMS by
turning off mmap mode in the second tab of the alsa configuration dialog.
BTW, when you type dmesg on a command line, do you see anything relating to
sound or lost interrupts? I did.

bstitute plug:dmix with whatever you want and put that in ~/.bashrc,
or /etc/env.d/, or in the script that runs the game.

My on-board Intel 82801DB sound card worked fine under Linux 2.6.0 (ALSA
0.9.7), but upgrading to Linux 2.6.3 (ALSA 1.02c) causes problems.
Enemy Territory has no
d when making loud noises in Unreal Tournament 2003.
That's the only other problem I've had with this sound hardware (and it might
have been a UT2003 bug).
Anyway, hopefully somebody can figure out what's going on. I can give
/proc/asound info and do more testing, if that'
