Is there no one who has an idea of what's wrong here? I followed the
examples but used the chg-multi changer rather than the chg-mtx. Any help?
Can I use chg-multi with a /dev/null tape device? I don't really have any
hardware, its all the file: driver writing to disk.

Offhand I think networking. ping the other from each, both client
and server. Check that all interfaces are up with proper netmasks,
addresses, default routes and gateways. The usual suspect when there is no
firewalling or router ACLs, VPN or NAT between client and server is
The server side gets a timeout. They are on the same IP subnet, so I
don't think a firewall would come into play here. Both boxes are
redhat 9 boxes with no system firewalling. If there's any other
information that would help, let me know.
thanks,

Greetings,
I'm sure that people on the list are tired of amcheck questions, but
I've searched everywhere I could think of and haven't been able to

side, but here's what I get from the client amandad logs:

Hi Jon,
I thank for your advices. I'm not familiar with file devices.

In fact it is required.

Never Mind,
I was under the impression that, for some reason, the holdingdisk {}
section of amanda.conf could not exist in my version. But I put it
there, with an appropriate Chunksize, and ... amcheck did not complain
at all. In fact it said "4096 size requested, that's plenty."

Thanks for the responses...
Upgrading at this time would be GREAT. Unfortunately this is not going
to happen anytime soon. I have another hard drive with RH9 and 2.4.4 on
it, but it's only half-configured, and it took a while to get to that
point.
As per the current, Irridum-dust, ancient setup,

Hi,
Before using my tape changer, I would like to check the DLT
but i don't find good results. Is this me or my hardware is not good ?
How could I find simply that harware works ?
Here are the file devices
/dev/sg0 et /dev/sg1
1st command :
mtx -f /dev/sg0 status
Storage Changer /dev/sg0:1 Dri
I found this :(
http://amanda.sourceforge.net/fom-serve/cache/273.html
I suppose I can amlabel each tape before I dump to it.

I had this error when trying to put dump files larger than 2 Gig on a

forgot about what would happen when I used the file: device to write the
coalesced dump files to disk tapes.

Hi,
I was wondering if I can operate without Amanda on-tape labels at all.
ie. Can I just use the VolumeTag= entries from my changer?
chg-zd-mtx (looking at the script) seems to want to match them up - so
I'm just asking for confirmation I guess.
adm1:/etc/amanda/daily# su backup -c /usr/sbin/am
