Hello Everyone,
I've been supporting Amanda for a customer for about a year now. I currently
have only used a single tape device as the client was leary about leaving any
media onsite as well as the fact that it would require more involvment than just
switching out tapes as most are not too techni
Does anyone have experience dealing with issues regarding the amflush not
working properly? The system in a RH9 box. I know there's more recent versions
than what's being used but I cannot find the later rpm's that are necessary. I
can provide what ever information is necessary to help:

then I guess I should kill it. Then I need to know what the Root Cause is so I
can fix it.
On another matter, could of I just deleted these directories if I didn't want to
flush them or would that cause problems?

Hello Everyone,
I've recently deployed amanda. The client forgot tapes on several occasions and
I've got 4 backups in my holding area. I initiated the amflush command and
followed the instructions. The job kicked off in the background and I've been
using:
ps -ef |grep amanda
to see if the proces
Hello Everyone,
I'm finally starting my backup on the server with the large file system. I'm
receiving errors and the DLE did not run as the excludes never took affect.
Here's excerpts from the amdump log:
"/etc/amanda/normal/disklist", line 21: dump type parameter expected

y this will have to occur,
but until then... I thought by default (I'm using tapedev, not tpchanger) so I
think it's configured properly. I'm new to this backup application so I
appreciate any input.
Thanks,
James

On to the next hurdle hopefully one of the last.
I have one tape device. I will be working with multiple systems so I know that
some backups will require multiple tapes. Since the backups will be eventually
done on cron, how does one know that a tape change is needed? Will amanda send
out an email
OK I got you. Could I still add options, enclosing them with them within the
'{}' fields (eg exlcude "/var/holding" )
servername /var root-tar { exclude "/var/holding" }
or can I only do this in the amanda.conf.
Thanks,

OK but if it's the / partion, will it also try to backup the other filesystems
(such /var, /usr, etc) or do I have to define an exclusion list? The examples

Hello everyone,
Finally doing the backups. This is my first run and it's on a client. I'm having
a problem backup up the / partition (/dev/hde5). Here's the line in the logfile:
FAIL planner domino /dev/hde5 20041102 0 [disk /dev/hde5 offline on domino?]
Here's my disklist entry:

Ok,
So this brings up 2 questions:
1. Since I want to be able to implement this without impacting everything else I
read that it was possible to call directories by modifying the disklist in the
following example:
"Try to redefine your disklist as in the following example:
fatboy /bigmama_BIGDI
ed another tape that it will start the backup from
beginning?
Thanks,

Hello all,
I'm getting ready to start using Amanda as a backup solution. To prepare, I've
read the online documentation and I've also read a section in the Red Hat Linux
Bible. I also read through the FAQ's. I am a bit confused with some items.
Mainly the configuration. The amanda comes with the
