Around October 30, 2001, the system housing amanda-users crashed. When
it was resurrected, the file with the amanda-users list in it had zeroed
out and I did not notice.

I've had/have this exact problem, I'm at the end of my rope now. from
what I understand alot of the problems have to do with block sizes but
that didn't help me none.
if I try and dd from the drive I get and could not allocate memory
error
I can dump fine and now I can even amverify, but its
I use chg-zd-mtx, with this same drive. and it works for me!

Frankly if the list maintainer is going to be making any improvements
I'd rather see the effort put into solving the latency problem. While
the situation has definitely improved since a few months ago when I
first mentioned it,

although this does not help all the time anyway you still get people
with no clue asking how to unsubscribe!

Can someone give me some hints?

I had the changer plugged in to channel B of the integrated controller

I'm running amflush now so we'll see how it goes.

It really looks to me to be a tape error. as its gzip complaining about
invalid compressed data.
Well to me it appears to be rather a problem in managing multiple
files on the tape, so as amverify cannot read one file properly, it
sends garbage to gzip, that sends garbage to tar that etc.
