Hello,
I ran ./configure using the --with-gnutar option and it's working fine now.
Thanks once again.

That is still a little too experimental. In tar 1.13.92 there
were some incompatibilities that made it impossible to work together
with amanda. They could have been resolved in 1.13
oblem here is that amcheck on the server returns this:

Ok I found the problem. gtar installes wasn't for
the sun version 2.7 . Now it is ok with amcheck.

GNU tar exists on the client machine, I can log in as amanda, and gnu tar is
in amanda's path. I can also execute gnu tar as the amanda user. Owners for
tar are:

This message means GNU tar could not be found (maybe it was not installed
yet) when ./configure was run for Amanda. Now that you have GNU tar
available, remove config.cache (or "make distclean") and start the Amanda
build over again
refused to follow

This says that when you ran ./configure for daphne.webcom.de, GNU tar
was not in the path (or it was a different path). You need to rerun
./configure (do a "make distclean" first) then rebuild/reinstall Amanda.
