Sometime you will hear people on 7160 or 7159 especially on the weekends.

The 40M AM
With all the AM rigs changing hands over the last several years, and the
AM mode being included on most of the current crop of transceivers, one
might wonder why isn't AM heard more often on the bands. I've even notice
that AM in the Northeast, less a few regulars or irregulars depending on
who is
For the VA3 -- and others --
There's a California and pacific NW group that fires
up on 3825Kc tonight, Friday, at 0200 GMT, 7P pacific
time or 10P eastern.
I've had several nice coast-to-coast AM chats with
them when the static is soft, maybe not tonight, but
keep it in mind too.
Hope to work

Hi, Pete. Interesting post.
Maybe AM activity has fallen off some because of the conditions,
but out here the AMI Net still holds forth weekely on 3870, with as
many as 40-50 or more check-ins. Also, we have a local AM Early Birds
Net Sat AM's, with several regulars
Hey Paul and everyone else on the reflector,
A few people have asked about my setup (I think) and so here it is.
Sad to say, I don't have any vintage equipment yet (aside from a
heathkit receiver), but for AM I'm using a Yaesu FT-897 pumping 100W
(usually) into a Hustler 6 Band vertical

Given that the 897 is rated up to 100 watts on SSB, the best you can do
on AM is a 25 watt carrier.

I'm sure conditions have a lot to do with the activity. Since I'm not an
early riser, working stations at 4, 5, 6 AM is generally not an option
for me. Also, I generally prefer one-on-one QSO's rather than net
participation. Hope you get that 100V on the air soon. That is my
favorite AM rig.
I purchased the SX-42 back in June as a set with a transmitter. Although I
would love to keep it, I find that I can not. My plan is to take the
receiver to the TRW Swap Meet tomorrow in Los Angeles, UNLESS someone here
wants it. I would much rather someone here would get it!
The unit is

Also, check out the top end of 160. Often, there is activity on 1970-90.
There you will hear military rigs that are designed to go down to 2 mc, but
overlap into the top end of 160. The AM groups that meet regularly on the
high end are mostly in the midwest and west.

Also, there is a Canadian group often heard on about 3720.
I seriously doubt that if there was a rise of AM operations that the
mode bigots would suddenly find religion, put a flower in their hair,
and play nice on the ham bands. If anything, it should make them more
agitated. Compounding this is the rise in digital operations on the ham
bands. At least
7295 is used in the southeast. Also, there is AM activity on 7160.

Herb, I have a Hammerlund speaker that is about 7X 9X 10 deep. It is grey
painted with the grey grill cloth with the white squiggle lines in it. I
