cMike,
Sad to say but I just experienced the worst case scenario with a fire
in the business below my workshop downtown here on the 21st.
The previous night I had heard a nasty arcing noise while listening to
75 mtrs. It was not constant enough to locate but by its strength and
type knew it

Hello Robert --
There is absolutely nothing wrong with operating modes other than AM.
I do a heck of a lot of CW on HF, and my VHF is split between CW and
SSB.
Not only is it OK to work other modes, it's quite OK to contest and
chase DX too!!
I've not done very much 75 AM over the past few yea

If you have time listen tonight, it's the weekly AMI net and usually we have
30 plus stations checking in from around the Western States on 3870. Warm
up begins at 7:00 PM, Net begins at 8:00 PM and round table after net.
Come on down, the water is warm...

Thanks Ron,
I will put my SB-301 on these frequencies for a couple weeks and see if I
can hear anything.

course I'm not that serious about it, not as if it

Thanks to those who offered great information about using various noise

Today my power company was at last able to speak directly with the owner
of the home where my noise is originating.
The home owner and I were able to determine which breaker causes the noise

Wonder where these folks are today...

I consistently work PNW AM stations on 3870 each week. During the winter
months propagation lengthens out and we can copy the PNW gang after 8:00PM
local time.
On 40 meters you will find a lot of AM stations in California, Arizona and
Oregon almost every day on 7293 starting about 10:00 AM l
I used to hear the PNW AM group on 3870 but I guess because of the solar cycle
they have dropped down into the noise.
I also used to hear the Calif. AM operators on 14.286. But it has been several
years since I have heard any 20M AM operation.
But what about 40M AM operation. Is there any 40M A
I also very rarely operate on 80 meters, partly because
some people there turn me off.
I am also not quick to blame ssb guys when they get to close,
their SSB rigs are often much better than old AM receivers, and they might

I know there are also people who jam on purpose, I
I operate AM because I enjoy the mode. Same goes for CW.
I also enjoy SSB, but sometimes operate it out of necessity rather than

If you could, I invite you and the others on that side of the pond to

I have to agree that was a completely rude way to be treated Bob. Get on
