David and the BB,
There is a published schedule that says that L/U is subject to interruption
for telemetry collection.
I sent out a note to the BB earlier today explaining the problem I am having
getting the satellite ready for this weekend.
The 22:30 pass only affected those in the eastern U
Listening on the 22:24utc pass of AO-51 just now and for the second day
running, the sudden distinct change in sound reception tells me that the
analogue signal is being switched over to digital for TLM collection
just as it gets to me in Florida.
If this is so then could we have a schedule of
Still looking for a Bird 4410-15 element for the Bird 4410A wattmeter.
This is a 100W element covering 1.0 to 1.8 ghz.

The Twitter feed to RSS works well, also.

AMSAT now has a Twitter account, and can be found at

email, but of interest to the general AMSAT community. To begin with they
may be mostly about AO-51 and AO-7. All are welcome to follow us.

During the last week, all the AO-7 morning passes over Brasil
are not good: very weak and distorted signal.
But all the evening passes are OK: very good signal.
What´s hapening ?

Thanks for this Drew. I have just seen that designation on the AO-51
information page (the one linked to the status page on the AMSAT site) for the
first time, although I've made countless visits to that page over the past year.
For those who will operating Field Day from remote/portable sites a
TXa refers to the 435.150 downlink, and TXb to 435.300, regardless of the
uplink or configuration. The power levels should be roughly the same for
Field Day.

Thanks for the information Gould.
Will you clarify, please, that TXA is the normal U/V configuration - and also
that these are the power levels we can expect for Field Day? That's what I
understand from your comments.
Thank you, and thanks for all your efforts to keep AO-51 functioning as best
Luc and All,
I finally started hearing that pass about 1310 utc in Memphis. Leo was
talking to someone,
but very weak audio and downlink signal. Maybe power cut back with both
modes on?

I didn't hear either pass this morning. The first one was 38 degrees to the
east, the second was 18 degrees to the west.
However ... I know of at least one operator who did hear stations on both
passes this morning (i.e., 11:25-ish UTC and 13:05-ish UTC) on the 435.300
downlink, and worked som
I am working with the satellite to get the Field Day configuration operational
long term.. I turned TXB back on during the 1300Z pass.
During this pass I adjusted the TX levels to TXA 240 mW and TXB 290 mW.
These are lower power levels than I have ever used before, but necessary to get

According to the website, 435.150 is currently the downlink for 1.2
uplink on the B side (Mode L/U) - I had a great 80 degree pass last
evening which was showing great promise as the bird approached but I
assume that it was terminated for telemetry collection reasons!

I/Q modulators don't work that way, no free lunch and all that. In newbie
terms, an I/Q modulator can be thought of as a special mixer that can
modulate a carrier signal with an arbitrary modulation format - i.e. any type
of modulation you want - literally.
An I/Q modulator has a Local
