HI Folks,
It is with a heavy heart that I have to report the death of AMSAT-UK
committee member John Heaton, G1YYH. He died in hospital in Manchester UK on
Christmas Eve, having been admitted two weeks earlier. He had not been well
for several months prior to his death.

I was on the 1153z AO51 pass this morning, and it shut off on me at about
1157z, came back on briefly, went back off, and then it went behind the
trees before I ever heard it come back on. I didn't note any projected
eclipses on that particular pass. I figured the on/off was just the power
Hi all,
My KISS satellite station (_http://gvarc.us_ (http://gvarc.us) , click
on Technical Page) made 14 SKN QSOs this year, on AO-7, FO-29 and VO-52.
All the best to everyone for 2011.

Hi Zach,
Thanks for your report. See why we like updates to http://oscar.dcarr.org/ ?
;) It's so nice to look and see a report that the satellite has been ON since
hearing a report that it was OFF.
The power is fluctuating between only 2 points during power management--from

Hello all and HNY.
There seems to be an Italian repeater inside 2m satellite band (145.850 MHz) :

It's also linked to a conference room on echolink.
Unfortunately this happens when the italian authorities give repeater
licences without caring to the bandplans.
It's not the first case, some repeaters are/were working on 145200-145800 in
Italy.

Here's a simple description (I hope). The FCD can receive about 80 kHz of
spectrum. You use the SDR software to decode whatever part of that you want to
hear. Essentially you click on the signal you want to hear, configure the
software for the mode (USB, LSB, FM, etc.) and configure the

The only problem with the FCB is that they're currently very close to
unobtainum. The batch that became available this morning (4AM at my
current location) sold out in less than 1 minute (I didn't get one, in
spite of typing as fast as I can, at exactly 20:00 UTC).

Happy New Year
I just watched the ISS pass over Seattle. Always glad to help! I was watching
my satellite array track the ISS and noticed how jerky it is every time it
increments. I have a 5400 az/el with LVB tracker. Made me wonder if I could
get more life out of the rotors if there
More are coming...and you can be sure Howard is working to try to meet the
demand.
I'm guessing that a key to having a reasonable supply is dependent on how the
next 100 turn out--they are being assembled by a vendor, so Howard doesn't go
blind and/or batty from making them all himself!! If

Hi!
After seeing a few messages showing a breakdown of QSOs by
satellite for a few operators, I decided to go through my
log after the end of the year and do the same thing. I
logged more satellite QSOs in 2010 (2704) than in any
previous year. Not only have I tried to be active from

Howard needs to get someone on this side of the pond building these Dongles
also. I'm sure he could have someone over here sign the NDA and produce
significantly cheaper than in Europe.
The offer of a Mexican shop sure seems logical.
The exchange rate right now makes these about $175 US for

Patrick,
Great Job and thanks for all the grids and contacts over
the last few years! I like your breakdown of all the bird passes.
Damon keeps asking me why are we doing this? I just tell him it's
fun and we're trying to support the post office.
We all appreciate the work and expense you
