Over the past few nights, I've been working the new AO-73
satellite from my back yard. Most of the time, I have been
using my normal portable all-mode satellite station - two
Yaesu FT-817NDs, Elk handheld 2m/70cm log periodic
antenna. Last night, I replaced one of the FT-817NDs with

If you're using FT-817's, why not install a Panadapter interface and
then use both the 817 and a Funcube. I wrote an article for the AMSAT
BB, but it hasn't been published yet.

An update on the satellite IDs.
Still no IDs are available for the satellites launched from the ISS
(except TechEdSat 3P) and the Minotaur.
Several IDs have been published for the objects from the Dnepr launch
but many need to be confirmed. Still not all TLEs are released.
AMSAT-OSCAR 73,
The Star Comm Group has a new satellite award called Got Grids? that will be
effective 1 Jan 2014. The award can be seen along with the rules at

I already have experimented with SDR - Radio Console V2.1 and the FCD Pro+
to capture telemetry and work the transponder simultaneously. Despite, the
low power of telemetry signal during evening passes, it works wonderful!

We followed the instructions to enter into SATPC.
We entered evert thing required and in DIVERSE Group we have AO 73.
The Down Link seems to be okay, but the uplink frequency is incorrect and
shows FM mode!
We rechecked our inputs.
What happened?

Shortly Elecraft will be offering a 2m module for its popular new SDR
radio, the KX3. This will provide 2m multi-mode operation using this
nice little HF/6m radio.

please cheek your doppler.sqf file and the entries in there under AO-73.
SatPC32 will use/display whatever is written in there. Sometimes it is a
messed up entry, wrong comma etc. The format is very specific and important.

button and something changed. The freqs are where they should be and

work, software support is important. In general, and others please correct
me, the primary satellite programs like SatPC32, Orbitron, MacDoppler etc
have provide support for

The K3 command set is very Kenwood like. I'm going to my shore home for the
day tomorrow, if I have some spare time I will try to communicate with my
K3(with internal 2m module) with SatPC32 as a Kenwood, just to see how far
we can get

Quick response---the 500mW reference was mentioned for 2 reasons--first, you
said it could work ;) and second, I suspect if you're using an Elk full duplex,
you'll see some interaction at higher powers (whatever that is...). So, you
might be fine at 5W. Let us know how it works!
