linux-headers - glibc - gcc - binutils - gcc - glibc - gcc-{fortran,gcj}
they deeply depend on each other. always keep that order!

I maintain an i586 arch box from source using abs.
Currently I have
binutils 2.17-4
glibc 2.6-2
gcc 4.2.1-1
built and installed. I don't upgrade that often, so I
missed gcc 4.2.1-2. Current gcc is 4.2.1-3. But:
gcc-4.2.1-3 depends on binutils>=2.17.50.0.18
binutils-2.17.50.0.18 depends on glibc>
