Your points are well taken. There is room for improvement. Whether
ARR should have taken up diction lessons as a child is another
issue. If ARR or any other non Urdu speaking artist for that matter
had an ideal training background and could afford Urdu mentors and
tuition as a child, that
I'd like to say that pronounciation varies from region to region. I
remember our Hindi teacher would pronounce van(hindi word for forest)
as bun, and he is a proper north Indian.
I personally dont find any probem with Rahman Sir's diction. If
anything, i find it to be quite distinctive and
haha... yea... ARR has been abit less careful in that department, even
in his Tamil songs, i notice some singers will pronounce the words
wrongly get away with it... but somehow the media/tamil educated
people will point it out critisize ARR for that

I agree that more care needs to be given to correctly pronounce words
outside of one's regional mother tongue. In the same breath, I also
find it quite creditable that a man like ARR, who knows very little
of Urdu, still makes a sincere attempt in pronounciation in his
songs,
