Hello All,
I have 3 questions around ARS Java API.
1. I have a Active Link Object, how do I get the human readable Run If
Qualification ?
i.e.
ActiveLink arObject = server.getActiveLink(arObjectName);
System.out.println(Run If: + arObject.getQualifier());
This prints Run If:
For #1, look at ARServerUser.formatQualification()
For #2, look at ARServeUser.formatSetIfQualification()
For #3, look at ARServerUser.formatAssignment()

Hi,
One of our client wants to generate multilevel approval for service request
based on user's answer to a question.
IN STAGE I we are capturing the approvers(like senior authority) full name in a
field from user. After that we use its name to get the User ID of approver.
And then we map its

Hello All,

Hi Vitthal ,
For this case you can use custom approval.
Below are the steps :
1. Select approval type as custom in SRD.
2. Create a approval rule to fulfill the 1st level approval.
3. Create entry in approval mapping form for 2nd level approval.
Thanks,
Ashish

Anandsagar,
#1 and #2 have been answered...so...here is #3
getAssignment, as you see is an AssignInfo object, but you are making ONE
fatal flaw...you are trusting BMC's 'as string' stuff to work...so, here is
my recommendation for you.
utilize the getAssignType method, then setup a case
Hello All,
We are trying to perform an upgrade of our Remedy Instance on v5.01.01 to
v8.1.
So far we have upgraded ARS from v5.1.2 v6.3 v7.1 v7.6.04.(Solaris)
on Dev Environment as a proof of concept.
We are targeting to Upgrade to v8.1 and also to move to Linux(VMware ESX).

I am guessing that you are going to need to do an Export on solaris --
create db with all the tablespace/permissions/etc.. and import in linux
--you are going to have a little indian and big indian problem..

Hi,
It seems much easier to just install a 8.1 and export/import the def file
followed by a migration of the data using the API.
RRR have tools to assist you in many of these steps, as you may need to fix
some parts of your application to fully functional.
As for upgrading from HelpDesk to ITSM
Make that you absolutely have to do an export -- you will have a little/big
indian problem.. DBF's from solaris to linux are not compatible

You will get a lot of additional answers to your question. There is no upgrade
path for Helpdesk 5.1.2 to ITSM 8.1. There was no upgrade path from 5.1.2 to
6.0.

We're starting to plan an upgrade from 7.6.03 to 8.0 or 8.1, for both ARS
and ITSM. In looking through the known issues for both versions, the issue
of degraded performance with IE 8 and the 8.1 mid tier jumped out at me.
We currently use IE 8 and an upgrade to 9/10 is not scheduled until late
Do you know what's causing the performance issue? IE8 is still very
common in corporate-land so MT should support it, properly...

I’ve got to second Ben here. This project is not for the faint-hearted, but
his meta-update product does make data migration possible. I really don’t
think there’s another practical way. There are very painstaking ways to do
this, but have a look at meta-update. Transactional data is a very
Hi All
We plan on creating/moving to a net new v81 env. We currently have a mix ARS
v75, ITSM v703, SRM v760 env.
For SRM... the BMC manuals, it says we need to upgrade our current ARS
v75/SRM v760 env to ARS/SRM v764 in order to migrate (export/import) into a
v8.1 env.

I'll echo what has already been said. For the upgrade to ITSM 8.x it
should be treated as a new build. Is it possible to upgrade HD 5.x to 8.x?
Yes, probably if you have enough time and money (although it is still not
supported by BMC). My guess is your company doesn't have enough time

There isn't anything in the documentation that says what causes the issue,
but the defect description says it is a Microsoft issue that won't be
fixed without an extended hotfix agreement. The workaround provided is to
use IE 9 or an alternate browser.

Based on the replies I understand, ARS Upgrade from v5.1.2 to v8.1 is
feasible.. Although, to upgrade ITSM(HPD v5.1.2) will be very challenging.
At this moment, we do not have enough budget to perform this at a full

Do you perform any regular or routine maintenance, utilities, scripts, or other

If you don't mind, could you create a separate post for this please? Just

This sounds like a great way to push your customers away from your

We currently have Siteminder SSO integrated with our Mid-Tier. Siteminder is

Thanks Ashish,
I created a SRD with approval type as Custom. Now I am going to create
Approval rules for this.
But I haven't created approval rules till yet. So should I create new Approval
process(AP:Administration) and then
create rules for this process.
Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2013 22:23:18
No need to create new process.
Use SRM Requests - Level process
Create a rule there and then
create a chain approval.
Go to Application Admin console
Custom
Service request management
Approval
Chain approval
Thanks,
Ashish
