produced even better sound if the volume was fixed and a good pre amp

I just looked more closely at the specs for AK4396, and it appears that
it is not a current output DAC. Why was the decision made to go for
this DAC, as opposed to a current output DAC such as PCM1794? I would
think at this price point, you should get the absolute best money can
buy, since DAC

Yes, I'm a no BS person and that's intended to carry through 100% in
this design.
While a few things in transporter were done strictly for aesthetic
flair, the use of thin film resistors, gold plating etc have proven
advantages regardless of whether I can personally hear each of those

If you have a power amp with a lot of gain, you need external
attentuation to preserve S/N ratio. Without it, you will definitely
hear noise when SB volume is turned down and SB analog stage noise (of
which their is a lot) is still blasting at full crank. SB should be
cranked to 40 whenever sound

It would be nice to have a composite video output on the SB and TP that
displays data formatted exactly the same as the onboard plasma display.

I am a TacT user (I have a TCS mkII
I also use my computer to control my modified SB2 from the couch. The
Transporter really needs a graphical remote (perhaps as an option?)
that eliminates the computer. I recently visited an audiophile with a
mac mini running through the $3500 Wavelength USB DAC. He controlled
the whole thing
If the Transporter is aimed at adding a whole new group of audiophiles
to their customer base, they have far from missed the boat. The SB3 is
something I would put in my office, but not my main racks. It lacked
the connectivity I desired and looked a bit like a bedside clock.
