What is above MP3 but below lossless?
If you're a retailer for SD, using lossy files does not do the

Thanks a lot for your replies. It seems that a portable amp would be a

I use a Rockbox ipod with Etymotic ER6i headphones. It sounds good

tell the difference between decent MP3 and FLAC, although the ability
to play gapless is crucial to me.
I couldn't really justify paying more than I have - I
Scanning this thread for the first time today, I was struck that nobody

EAC supports ripping to the WMA Lossless format. The generated files
are not copy protected. The difference between using EAC and WMP for

I've got a SB3 feeding a high-end DAC (dCS Elgar).
Another thread suggested that an improved power supply could help the
sound because it would reduce noise passed between the components, and
might stabilize jitter in the SB3.
Would a linear power supply to the SB3 improve the sound vs the

In my opinion, yes. You should only use the wall
Storage is very cheap so why even listen to mp3's when lossless is there

My MPs'sound better on my PC speakers as on my my stereo set, so i

ACtually the sound is better, but sometimes the amplifier clips (shuts

The only sensible answer to that would be that you already have ripped
to music once, and couldn't be bothered to do it again.
I also have a large collection (~1250CD's) but
Do you still rip to mp3's and at what bps? I suppose another reason to
rip to mp3 would be if the songs were downloaded from various internet

I only rip to FLAC - I only care about quality so I can't stand the
thought of what the missing bits does to my music.
I don't care, but some of you apparently do, so here's a link:

I've read here you can get some loss of quality if the volume goes below

get above 20 and is usually lower.

Tyler,
That is a terrific post especially since you don't think these PS's
make a difference.
It is very interesting how cheap they are.

A quick question. Are the 5 pin DIN connectors plug-and-play compatible
with the Squeezebox? I am referring to the power supply referenced in
Tyler's second link. I have an aversion to any soldering/fiddling that
may be necessary. Thanks in advance.

No. A 5-pin
Well.. there is crimping, which isn't soldering- but you'd need a
multimeter to check polarity, which is fiddling.
