Oh dear. A bug snuck in to the processor a while back, and since I
wasn't affected, I didn't even notice... but I think it's the cause of
these bad-sounding results.

Apologies if anyone has already posted about this, I didn't see any

Just thought you might like to know, the Transporter has received a 5
star (that's the max) review from What HiFi magazine in the UK. They
particularly praised it's analogue like sound.

Interested in this thread as i am also trying to use the SB3 straight to
poweramp to kep things simple/clean.
Also tempted by a DAC as a sound improvement and noticed the Benchmark
DAC has a analogue volume control which could double as attenuator?
Anyone using SB3-DAC1-Poweramp-Speakers? Work
As Ben says, much of it is personal preference. However, you may also
want to note the input sensitivity of the amp you are using. In my
experience, running direct to an amp with a high input sensitivity will
have better results than one with lower one.
But like Ben, my personal preference is
I agree completely with your statements, Greg. Which is why I am trying

I am aware of no such beast. The cheapest plug/play would be the modded
elpac by Bolder, and I believe one of the mods is change the DC

When changing to a linear psu did any one notice a slightly softer /
maybe not so much bite in the treble department ?
I know I need to have a bash myself, but just wondering.

I'm saying the sound from the CD player went through D-A (in the CD

Sadly, I don't know a way to do that. If you have a sound card with a
digital out you could send it to a DAC, but then you could still object
on the basis of jitter etc. I'm more likely to object to the humming computer!

Now what?
Transporter
I am trying to justify a Transporter purchase through selling off my
Audible Illusions pre (and DAC, and...). I currently drive two
amplifiers using two sets of outs from the Pre: good amp (Sunfire
Stereo Sig.) for my main system and one (Adcom 555) that feeds a
speaker switcher for other spaces.

Ah, OK - my PC is designed for silence, and it's really pretty close to
inaudible, so that's not a problem for me. Can't you use a laptop? Or
just listen with phones?

wdrazek, you and I are on the exact same paths. At my house, my
surround system is monopolized by the wife and kids so I too decided to
build a dedicated 2-channel system in the living room for myself.
I also wanted to keep it simple and clean with the SqueezeBox3 as the
only source. It not

go.
As I understand it, the volume control in the SB3 happens prior to
Thanks Inguz! I will give this a try this coming Friday when I finally
return home and will let you know how it goes. In the meantime, maybe a
couple of the others experiencing the same issue can provide feedback

The SB3/Lavry is a really good combo. The only thing I would point out
is that you really should consider the Transporter. It could
effectively replace the SB3/Lavry/preamp combo. Before plunking down
money for a Lavry I'd demo a Transporter.

IMHO the TP would likely NOT be bettered with an out board DAC.
