Hi - I have had Stax headphones for at least 20 years, in this time I
have had New SR3s, SRX, Lambda Pros and Signatures. Powering these have
been SRDx, SRM1 Mk2 SRM-T1s. I have kept the latter two of headphones
/ Drivers the others going to friends. If I ever want to really listen
to the music

Good question, since the extra amp is already there. I'll check it out

Very interesting...I tried it on the bedroom system that has the L and R
speakers on a shelf. Adding the C speaker and putting it in the middle
tended to collapse the stereo spread, and since I was closer to the C
speaker, it seemed louder and had a tendency to overwhelm the other
channels a
HW:
1) SB3 form factor is OK (a bigger display would be nice now that I am
closer to 40s)
2) Balanced, volume controlled, output
3) Of course fanless.
Additional SW:
1) An audio driver that lets me redirect the Windows (XP - Vista)
mixer output to the SB.
This will finally give the fexibility

Annie - apologies if my reply seemed overly defensive - it is just
having used Stax for so long I use them as my reference for what is the

Yamaha is the world's #1 receiver manufacturer in terms of volume, so
they do know what they're doing. Their receivers are usually

I just bought a Channel Islands Audio DAC and a friend of mine is on
his way over with a Benchmark DAC1 for a little comparison. I'd like
You to tell us what comparisons to run and we'll report back with our
impressions.
Many here are proponents of the DAC1 so here's
One suggestion - after listening to the two for a while to get a sense
of the difference, try listening blind. Make sure the volumes are
matched.

they become if left in the sun.

You could also take some measurements on a scope and it would give you
just about as much information on how they sound.

You're getting some good advice here, so I'll back out after this ...
I agree that Yamaha is at the top end of the mass market stuff. I used
a Yamaha RX-V2095 A/V receiver before I got my Parasound stuff for my
main music/HT system.
My pereption of the Yamaha was that it also suffered from
I appreciate all the tips. The yamaha does have something called pure

to try both analog and digital inputs to see if I hear any difference -

To give you the opportunity to buy it as I'm guessing you don't check

Overall, I like the Harmony 880 Programmable Remote. It is very easy
to program and is very easy to use. My one gripe is the flat/small
buttons. The display could also be be higher resolution.
