If you get a DVD drive make sure you get a dual layer capable drive.
That can come in handy for "backing-up" your DVD collection.
There's plenty of free software out there that makes it easy.

I just wanted to re-confirm what I had written so I ran another test
tonight.
I just did the following test using dbPowerAmp:

The Lite-On burners have worked well for me. I have 4 of them in a box
for doing mass rip/encode sessions.
This seems like a popular one:

Uh no... Read my post. I'm talking about the new High Def video
standards that include high rez audio capabilities.

Does the SB3 still downsample if you're using an external DAC? Or does
it pass the digital stream intact (e.g. can it pass 88.2kHz 24bit data
to an external DAC)?

You know, I just don't know; I have always been on the other side of the
issue obtaining the patents, not enforcing them so this is a weak area
for me. I am presently looking into it and will post what I find,
though keep in mind that whatever I may come up will be my own personal
opinion and not

I'd like to request help in configuring slimserver to do the following:
Without permanently changing a flac file to wav, have Slimserver auto
transcode a flac file to wav at the time of track selection prior to
streaming it to Squeezebox. Thanks for your help.

Hi Michael,
I looked at your site/products, pretty interesting. You are the only

Regardless of how the system is set up, a phono preamp is of course
required. From then on, we have two choices:
1. phono preamp -> analogue preamp -> power amp
2. phono preamp -> A/D converter -> Transporter

Actually because of the limitations of the processor and firmware - the
DAC can do 96KHz/24-bits.

I belive the transporter can handle 24bit 96khz streams. the SB3 can
also handle these, although it downsamples to 48KHz because
you mean high rez standards like the incredibly popular sacd and dvd-a?

Huh? I'm not sure what your sources are, but the quality of *any* PC
streaming depends on the audio device used. And that goes for
