Well, if you simply need a pre/dac for the SB, the remote is certainly a
point.
I was wondering whether you could ask M.Beresford: perhaps he has a way
of fitting a motorized volume knob (with a remote) ?
Unfortunately, all dacs (that I'm aware of) with remote controls cost
quite a bit
An number of us have asked Stan about a remote volume control. He thinks
a motorised pot would come be very expensive in a box such of bargain
price, and its inclusion would take the cost above that at which he
could sell.
He has observed that the DAC chip has itself a digital volume control.
All in one design w/ decent DAC implementation and analog stages?
If they can rid it of the digital volume control scheme and instead put
a discreet analog step ladder volume pot in it, sign me up!

I ended up ordering the A5s, B-stock. Received this AM. Listening now.
Superb!
For fun, I connected them to a switch to allow quick side-by-side
comparison of old vs new. (Old = 15 year old boombox with leftover
Samsung surround speakers) The differences are astonishing!
Thanks to all for

Just a Transporter with a knob (a GOOD knob, ala discreet metal film
resistor clicker to adjust volume)

Well, you can put a passive preamp if you like :

Welcome to the forums. ;)
First of all: Don't panic !
MediaMonkey is probably the best tagging/organizing software, first
good point.
You should try both solutions Duet analogue output into the amp,
then digital output to MSB dac
and decide which one you prefer.
You should try using your

Most non-competes run for a year minimum. So Fall 2010

My Transporter is connected to an A/V Preamp (Anthem D2). A friend owns

before feeding it to his preamp; he claims that using the external DAC
he gets better sound than the SB alone.

That does not matter.

The Anthem (as with nearly all a/v receivers) normally digitizes all its
inputs which is probably not what you want. This both introduces a
superfluous A-D-A stage, and places an upper limit on your performance
to that of the Anthem's internal ADC and DAC.
However the D2 lets you bypass the

Have u had any experience with Berkeley audio alpha dac/preamp? it has

However, I am sure why it does not have a word clock. Is it an absolute
