. The only real reason to do it now technically is if
the cable run is very long or if there is a chance of interference from
other electrical items. In a domestic situation this is unlikely. (CAT^6
has better shielding)

Found the issue. My Factory - yes factory - terminated speakers cables,
one othem was wrong Now sorted.

equal shed loads of bass/low end. I disconnect one of the speakers and
booom. Low end back. Reconnect and try the other and the same thing,
sounds normal.
All I can think of is the speakers so close either some of the low end
out...

Cheers for the good advice advice. I have a Shek d1 at the moment and I
feel it lacks punch/drive compared to my cd player. My favourite tracks
which give me goose bumps on the cd player fail to do so with the Shek.
Do you have any opinions on later DAC's?

I have actually sold the cd player and gone FLAC SB Shek. The sound
is good, good detail and imagery but as I say I miss my goose bumps!
FYI I use a Rotel Kandy MKIII and Dynaudio 52's
