Audioengine replaced the left powered speaker. Fixed the problem.
Great people to work with. Prompt service. Shipped replacement first
and then let me ship back defective speaker (they paid the shipping)

I went to Monoprice and ordered some new cables just to be safe. I tend
to keep cables and I throw them in a big tub. It is possible I got two
bad cables. So I will change the mouth and it I still have the problem
I will call Audio Engine
Thank you for all the help

Sounds like you have an intermittent connection or faulty socket on the
speaker that keeps cutting out. (so its not the SB or the cables)

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it
ain't what you'd call minimal...

Okay - the 1st input is in the rear while the 2nd is on the top. Do
they both exhibit the same problem?

try looking at the speaker connection it could be that the 3.5mm mini
jack has a poor contact I've had this on no end of 3.5mm sockets on
walkmans a small ammount of vibration could be just enough to rattle
the socket to create a break. Try cleaning the 3.5mm pin with deoxit
or similar.

Most of the Audioengine speakers I've seen have both RCA and mini-jack
inputs. Have you tried both?

Yeah it works fine on another amp. I have two squeezeboxes and it does
the same with both.
I thought surely it has to be a cable but I changed the cables (and
speaker wires) and I still have the same intermittent problem.

Can you hook your SB up to another amp to see if the problem is with the
speakers or SB3?

I need some advice on how to pin down a problem I am having.
I have a squeezebox hooked up to Audioengine speakers.
The connection is via composite cable (red and white) from the
squeezebox to the speakers with a composite Y ending with an mini-rca
plug at the speakers.
The problem is I will pe
