The main problem I have is that the setup is just a little too laid

The best option I agree, but still with no remote and the volume
control on the back. Also they still have lights on the front (I
believe)?

The Quads look pleasant enough and seem to have gotten some decent
reviews. This thread has gotten me thinking active again.

Good point (although they still have led's) question is - are they
going to solve my current problem and offer a significant improvement
over my current setup (Cambridge Azur 640A and Wahrfedale Diamond 9.1)?

Purely personal opinion - I'd keep the 640A and get some
Proper active speakers (not just speakers with amps inside them) are an
expensive proposition...
Yes, but IMHO, they are the future.
I don't think you save money, but the amp engineer can deliver what the
driver engineer wants, how, when, what flavor, etc.

Before you do anything, you might experiment with room acoustics and
speaker placement. You'd want to look at the relationship of your
listening spot to the speakers. If there are any strong primary
reflection points, those can affect imaging. You can experiment by

Using one of the room correction options out there can bring significant
improvements for very little cost - particularly for LF issues. Give
Inguz or Brutefir a try. The KRK Ergo is an affordable option as well.

Hi thanks for the quick replies and the sensible answers. I will look
into the room correction and see how I get on, however I do also fear
that it may be a red herring in my original post.
Basically we knocked a wall down and rearranged rooms in the house, so
my setup is now in a combined

If I'm understanding this correctly, you've modified your room to make
it bigger and now things sound a bit lifeless?
I'm afraid the only cure for this is:
1) more efficient speakers, with more bass capability to drive the
enlarged room properly
2) a bigger, beefier amp (but only after 1 above)
