I have my main speakers at the same distance within 1mm , but the do
not measure or sound the same, because the room is not the same at
both ends.

it fits in the chain but learning is half the fun. I am hoping though
that someone knows how to convince Squeezebox Server or the Touch's
firmware to do this without adding any plug-ins or outside programs.

distances, a difference of a few feet would, it seems to me, only move
the sweet spot a little off center. I also can't imagine doing much
serious listening sitting outdoors on a stone bench, but that's just
me.

My primary listening area has extremely good acoustics except that one
speaker needs to be nearly two feet closer to the listener's chair
(front to back) than the other speaker:-(
Without the Inguz EQ plugin, I wouldn't have been able to use this area
for serious listening at all. However,
You may have a look like some use sox on a server for upsampling. You
can use sox in that way for adjusting volume and there is even the
delay option that from doing a quick look into the readme works on
seperate channels.
