Sorry to say I haven't gotten very far on my quest at all. Between
work, chores and the fact there really isn't anywhere in my area to try
this stuff out. Still
Howard: have you had a chance to evaluate the MF X-DAC V8? I'm curious
to know what you think.

I recently read a test of the Duet, there it was said that the digital
output from a good cd player sounded better than the digital out from
Duet! What gives?
Analog out from SB3 gives me a bit 2 dimentional sound, no deep tuneful
bass, and kind of boring sound. Instant switch to digital out into

Just want to say Bryston has a new separate D/A converter out. The BDA-1
is one sleek unit.

Hi Howard,
I would be very interested in what you finally decide on. Comparing my
SB3 analog out with my Apollo CD player, the SB3 seems a little less
3-dimensional. I love the convenience of the SB3, but I don't want to
give up any sound quality. I'm a little hesitant in buying a DAC

Actually there's an old studio trick. Sometime when you've sat listening

It would be easy to dismiss your story as hyperbole but I believe you.
Sources shouldn't sound that different but sometimes they do have a
different character t

That's exactly where my wife says the volume is about right. One floor
away, with the kids in the tub and the water running... :-)
I'll check and see if Cam
I have the duet receiver and found the sound to be acceptable using the
built in DAC but nowhere near as good as that of my 8 year old

something completely different, the cambridge audio 840c cd pla

Magnifying glass - that's so analog. Try zooming in in the digital
domain ('+' and '-' buttons on you controller), that might help.

I'll take a peek at the MF X-DAC V8.

I doubt you going to get any major improvements on the digital side
unless you use something like a digital parametric equaliser to tweak
sonics or something like a meridian 518 or some other form of
"upsampler" or DSP box between ther duet and DAC.

warmer characteristics? I really, really love my old Revox B226
