My DVR and any some oher Hd/DVD recorders have fans in em that go bad ,
I have disconnected em in my stuff - prolly not good for their
lifespans , but the whirring was making me dilly. Check the fans ,
clean em (blow dust off) and spray a little wd40 in the moving parts ,
that often silences em
I'm hoping for some practical advice on the following 2 problems:
1) I have a small apartment and the fridge is too loud. Beyond adding
rugs to absord some sound, does anyone have suggestions?
2) My Motorola HD DVR unit in the living room is on a glass tv stand
and the slight whirring noise is
1) a new fridge? I know its not a very practical solution
2) The whirring sound is probably the hard drive, a lot of these DVR's
never sleep the drive so they can quickly start recording. A TV stand
with closed doors would block a lot of the noise, but you do have to be
a bit careful about
It would be useful to see some pictures of your fridge setting and glass
stand. The fridge issue will require some surface transformation or
casing.
1)Try placing in which ever way you can acoustic absorption material
(foam or panels) in the reflective vertical surfaces around your
fridge, back
Turn the fridge off when you are listening to music. If it's only an
hour or so and you don't open the door it will stay cold inside.
You could also unplug the DVR if it isn't scheduled to record any shows
while you are listening. Our DVR, a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 is
normally off but
Use headphones!
I bought some cheap anti-slip mat (for a router) and I use that
underneath hard drives etc, that cuts down on noise, especially on
glass which acts as a soundboard.
As for your fridge, maybe a service of the compressor will help? And it
can only help keep running costs down.

For the HD player I use three layers of isolation under the gear. My
problem is that the hdd vibrates the player which is transfered to the
wooden box tV support.
I have a thibk piece of mdf a piece of bubblewarp and then another piec
of mdf under the kit. works a treat. every change of audio
If you haven't changed your Motorola DVR in awhile go back and tell them
it's not working right. Make up something like it's losing recordings.
You have to take it in because if you call them they'll send out
someone that will mess with it and make you keep it. Just show up with
it in hand and
Thanks for all the suggestions.
The fridge is new, but it's cheap (I rent). As for the HD DVR, I have
upgraded it once recently. I'll try the mdf thing or something along
those lines.
I did discover the web-site below and they seem to provide great
support. Already got an email reply with
