I seriously doubt that would make SPDIF, problem free. Especially not
in the general sense.

No, I didn't ABX it. And I

Only if you underpower the Sb3 to disable the display and analog
circuitry :)

Actually, it suppresses EMI from coming _out_ of the box.

You are correct. I was a bit sloppy in
I disagree with Pat Farrell, when he says "There can be no audio
quality improvement in adding
anything to the audio chain"
I conneted the SB3 to a DAC, the Benchmark DAC1, and the improvement
in quality of sound was remarkable!
Please try it!

They're not silly, but you've combined two questions
No real disagrement here.
By improved audio quality, I was referring to using an analogue volume
control rather than the squeezebox one.
To me, a minimal passive preamp is just an attenuator. I use a DACT
model built into a power amp with no other cicuitry. There are
certainly cheaper solution

I beg to differ. There can be no audio quality improvement in adding
anythin
As for connecting the SB3 directly to a power amp, it would be better
(for audio quality and safety reasons) to use some type type of preamp.
Many here use passive preamps which can be inexpensive.

Jitterbug's
The SB3 has an external switched-mode PSU
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switched-mode_power_supply) which some
claim can have a high-frequency noise on the 5V output (hence the
ferrite-core on the wire to suppress this), This noise could affect the
DAC in the SB3.

Hello,
I know very little about electricity, so please forgive my silly
questions.
I have read that upgrading the power supply benefits the SB's sound.
Now, just for curiosity sake, how can Volts have a sound?
Would the original power supply sound better if hooked on a computer
ups battery?
