I find the TP to be plenty rhythmic. It is definitely in the neutral and liquid camp of digital sound. It does not have quite the same impressive authority as either my Linn or my Ayre. However, to put that in context, I have to be listening quite critically and compare the two. On its own, I f

That is interesting that your results were so different from mine. I thought the Bolder modded/PS was in the same league as the TP but NOT superior into my rowland/Watt/puppy set up. The TP comes pretty close to the AYRE to my ears, but there is a certain "magic" to tthe AYRE that I haven't heard

I also have the SB3/Ack! dAck! 2.0 (with ultra-resolution capacitors) and am really happy with it. Like sonofcolin, I am using a Bolder-modified Elpac PSU. I'm using two isolation transformers and like the sound best when the Elpac is well-isolated as compared to plugged into the wall, so I thin

The TP has PRAT in spades IMO. It gets the rythm and articulation right. Give it a listen. -- tomjtx tomjtx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7449 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/s

Thanks for all of your replies. Intitially I thought I might try the Bolder mods and see if that would work but it seems like everyone here recommends getting a DAC first. The sad part is home testing of DAC's will be the only way to test them - my Naim and my Creek dealer don't carry any. Rpler

I've use the SB2/3 with various DACS and also used solely the analogue outs. For a system such as you are planning you'll need a dac without question. In my experience the next most important upgrade is to get a linear power supply (like the Elpac), which can be got extremely cheaply. I have no id

wdrazek: I use NAIM 82/SC/250 with SB3 and Harbeth C7ES-2. I have the larger ELPAC PS (bolder modified) for the SB3 and an Ack dAck! 2 (ultra rez) for DAC duties. Sounds pretty good to me. The SB3/ dAck! replaced a CDX/XPS (I kept my TT!). The SB3 is about to be digitally modified by Bolder. $120

Oooh!! I bet that does sound good with a Wadia DAC. Isn't it great you can spend so little on a good transport and then spend the money on a top tier DAC? It really is a good time to be an audiophile (as told to me by Wes Phillips at a recent event here in Tacoma, WA.) -- rplert Randy Lert L

wdrazek, I am running my SB3 wirelessly (encrypted 802.11g) and feeding the digital Toslink optical output into a Waida DAC. The sound is superb. Rplert's description of the analog outputs of the SB3 match my experience as well. Good for "sleeping" music but not suited for critical listening. Ha

I am a vinyl as well as digital kind of listener and have listened to my system with both a Transporter and an SB3 which is kind of the same thing as listening to an SB3 with a DAC and without a DAC. I think as a primary source you are going to want to add a DAC. The SB3 is, for me, a background
