The SNR may not be an issue with the SB3 when using digital out, but it
WILL be an issue with the external DAC. An analog attenuator after the
DAC attenuates noise as well as signal, no matter where the DAC is (in
the SB or external).
So I think it comes down to audibility of the two methods and
The SNR is not an issue if you are using the digital output into a DAC.
There is no "fixed level of noise" in this case. Noise is fundamantally
an analogue issue... (lets ignore the effect of dithering on the 24th
bit)
IMHO there is no discernible difference in quality between using the SB

Setting the SB3 to max volume is essentially the same thing as having
the volume fi
Ah yes, you didnt specify your system.
I have chosen volume as "Fixed" in the menu of SB3 which means its
always 100 %, unless you use the volume control that is.
I do have the "advantage" of a preamp so I dont need to match volume to
anything.
Follow the advice from Ben.

The Lavry has an adjustable attenuator. It's used to match the output
of the DA-10 to an amp or preamp. You want as little attentuation as
possible, so set it as high as you can without overdriving your amp (or
preamp). Take a look at the specs of your amp and see what voltage
input it wants.

Thank you!
Before buying the DA10, my SB3 was connected directly to my tube amp.
and I kept the volume fixed at the amp level and, because tubes need a
minimum volume level to sound good (and this level is often to loud), I
reduced the volume
Keep the SB3 volume at "Fixed".

Hello,
I have the following configuration: SB3+Lavry DA10.
The DA10 has a volume control, it has an up/down toggle switch to
control the volume over a 60 dB range.
On the SB3, you can also ajust the digital output volume.
Please, do you have some advise on how to proceed to set the volume in
