CD\ reg query HKLM\hardware\devicemap\serialcomm pause Cut & paste from my .bat file created using Notepad. I added the CD\ to get it back to the root directory as I thought that was the initial problem. It wasn't.. Maybe I just don't have that HKLM key in the registry, no Serial Port on this com

That would be right. The newer Prolific's since about 2012-2013 use the new chip 2303HXD with drivers which work in Win 10. You must have one with the later chip. To avoid buying a USB to serial with an earlier 2303 chip just buy a FTDI chip device. Mike Which is what I said if you read

Here's the story: There are two main kinds of USB to serial chips. The FTDI chip as in the Dontronics device and some other brands and the 2303 chip in the Prolific and other devices. I bought a new FTDI chip device last week via eBay.

Jim, just about all adapters use the same Chip. all of them are built in China. you would think that they all should work, but they don't. I find about one in 10 is sub quality. I suspect they are susceptible to power supply noise, but it's a guess. they are cheap, buy a few of them. throw th
