Actually, it looks as if there's going to be ashphalt right through the middle of the club-house, not to mention the threshold of the cross-strip. Surely there are heritage issues with Gawler airstrip that should be considered. It is after all, a significant part of our history! Z On Tue, 28 No

Yes, indeed. As the owner of a private hangar located exactly where the road will go, I am very interested in how it will all pan out. The current information is that the airfield will remain. Most likely with one runway realigned slightly and the other one extended to make up for the loss caused

I suspect the only ammunition the club (and the soaring movement) have are the heritage issues. It may-be that those can be brought to bear so that the Highway misses the strip altogether. The prospect of towing gliders over a dual carriageway at low altitude isn't one that rings the safety bell

Regardless of how heritage weighs up against economics of the project, reduced safety is still a compelling argument. If the current planning option makes it more marginal for options that is something that would be worth raising (as are heritage values). Jo -Original Message- From: [EM

It really depends on what phase they are at with their planning and what information they have been provided with when doing their options analysis. If there are three options being considered and this option is least favourable to the gliding club then it would be worth presenting all arguments

At ASC as it is now, if you are taking off from RWY 05, you are towing over the Gawler bypass (which is going over a railway as a bridge too), with not many options, one being landing on the dual carriage way. Normally RWY 05 is in use with hot NE winds (high density altitude days), hence climb
