Yes, you are missing something.
The IGC spec is actually a suggestion, not a requirement.
In order to provide all the EW functionality, all 8 wires on the
Ethernet RJ connector are used (yeah it isn't Ethernet either) and it
is impossible to comply with the IGC wiring standard.
