I have a Abel S. Freitas sailing on the S.S. Cretic from St. Michaels
on March 22,1909. He was headed to Taunton Ma.
My Aunt was born around 1913 in the USA. The family returned to St.
Jorge and my Mother was born there in Oct. of 1

Did your mother ever say what village/freguesia she was from on Sao Jorge?
You have to have that info in order to access the Portuguese records.
The Sao Miguel "passaportes" (emigration out of the Azores) are online at
the Center for Knowledge of the Azores (we call it the CCA web site as

He was coming from Urselina (Urzelina) Sao Jorge but it says he was
born in Fajau/Fajan Sao Jorge. He was going to his cousin Manuel
Goncalves on Briggs St. Taunton.
Les, are you more interested his the Sao Jorge connection or the US records?
