I only did lesson one. I think it would be helpful to someone who is trying to
read and understand the written words in a document.
Personally, I have done very little of that. When I look at a record and
phonetically sound out loud each word, I can remember words from my
grandmother
I don't know what happened to my reply, perhaps I sent it directly to
you instead of posting to the list. In any event, name changes are
common and customary, because although the records often only show one
or two names, many people were known by different names, which often
include their grandpar
I just played around with 2 of the modules/lessons. I don't read one letter
at a time, I read a whole word at a time, so that's hard. Also, they don't
use the same words as the Azorean records (our wife is usually called a
"mulher" more often than an esposa). I gave them feedback on that.

I'm looking at this now. It's really cool, even for someone who has no
trouble reading the records there is some interesting historical
information about the country, the language, and the records, so anyone
who checks it out probably won't be wasting their time.

my grandfather's obituary. I remember he went to Calif. to visit them once but

I checked the St. John's Cemetery book and the closest I can find is in St.
Theresa Section -
Vieira, Joaquim 1892-1950 and Luiz 1889-1964. If it is possible they had
no stone, they would not be in the book I have. Also, if they died after the
book was printed, they would not be in it.
