OK, I went to Google Books and on the right-hand-side there is place that
says find a library. This book is at Santa Clara Library, Connecticut
State U, U of Mass, Dartmouth. I don't know if it helps but I also looked
in Bookfinder.com and no luck nothing on www.hathitrust.org either.

It is a two- volume set of books by Marianne Holmes Thomas. It was published in
1996 by CHiP (The Community History Project) in Edgartown, MA. It covers 3000
families who lived on Martha's Vineyard including my father's. (My mother was
also from the island but not of Portuguese

The book does not indicate that Francis left the island. A death date of 6 Nov
1893 is given. He married Deborah Vincent and together had 7 children.
As for a Manuel- on page N512 it says Manuel Machado, son of Matthew and Martha
Machado, both from St. George, came to Edgartown and
If the Library in Martha's Vineyard are half as great as the one in
Nantucket, you will glean much of information from them. The ones in
Nantucket helped me tremendously in a search I was doing. Above and

There is a Manuel deLoura listed. Says he was born in 1870. Lists his wife and
children but offers no further info as to where he was born.
Now I really do need to get to work. I'll gladly look up anything else when I
